Over the years that this site has been in existence, I've written some pretty clichéd biographies, complete with incredibly cheesy and not-at-all funny jokes. That trend ends here.

My name is Adam Nowek. That name has been the subject of a shitload of terrible schoolyard mockeries, which I'm sure you can come up with if you give it five minutes (or a couple of beers, I guess). People who were there refer to me lovingly (I hope) as Lefty, but you really don't want to know the story behind that one. Seriously. I'm nineteen years old. I quite enjoy it most days; I never really noticed until the start of '06, but lots of things in my life have fallen into the best places possible. And it's nice to have most of your ducks all in a row before 20. For now, at least. And, hey, I can buy liquor anywhere in Canada. Always a plus.
I've lived in Vancouver and Los Angeles, and you couldn't find two more startlingly different places to live in North America. Vancouver is very laid back and easy-going, while Los Angeles is permanently in overdrive. I guess that's why the transition was so easy; it's easy to fake it. And, as terrible as that makes Los Angeles sound, it's really not so bad. Hell, it's probably why it's so fun; everyone thinks they're a movie star down there. It's an experience everyone should try. Besides, the weather's fucking fantastic. I'm addicted to music. If I can help it, I go to at least one show a month. I won't bore you with a list of a thousand bands that I enjoy, but I'll give you some examples. I'm in love with the long and drawn-out Midwest emo sound (The Promise Ring, Evergreen, Christie Front Drive, Texas Is The Reason). I also enjoy, to a limited extent, new "emo" (The Juliana Theory, Coheed and Cambria, Brand New), which is, hands down, the most vague genre description on Earth. The runner-up for vaguest genre award goes to "indie", which I also love to death (Death Cab For Cutie, Belle + Sebastian, Sigur Ros, The Weakerthans). I also have a soft spot for the combination of chillout/ambient (Boards of Canada, Thievery Corporation, dZihan & Kamien, Autechre) and an alcoholic beverage. I grew out of real industrial music a while ago, but I still enjoy some of the more EBM-sounding bands (VNV Nation, Apoptygma Berzerk), and every once in a while, I'll enjoy some good old punk rock (AFI, Hüsker Dü, Propagandhi, Bad Religion). Lots of people don't admit things like this, but some of the bands on the radio aren't so bad (Weezer, Coldplay, The White Stripes). And, like most, I enjoy some of the classics on occasion (The Beatles, Kraftwerk, The Eagles, Miles Davis).
I love to travel. Nothing makes me more content than going somewhere that I've never been before. It's a wonderful sensation that I just love to fulfill. If I had to narrow it down (not including the places I've seen over the past year or so), I'd say my favourite destinations are Pebble Beach, California (for its' sheer natural beauty, especially at night), Eze, France (I guarantee that most people that travel to Nice regularly only know Eze by name; this is bad! Eze is a breathtakingly cute town in the mountains that should be seen by everyone), and Madrid, Spain (a fun city to explore on foot). I eat, sleep, and breathe hockey. I worship the Vancouver Canucks. Okay, so that's an overstatement, but they're, by far, my favourite hockey team (distantly followed by the Los Angeles Kings, and whoever's playing the Leafs). I'm also a giant fan of international hockey, and Canada and Sweden are who I pull for. I've witnessed two Olympic Games in person. I attended the 2002 and 2006 Games. I'll obviously be at 2010, and just maybe my dream will come true, and 2014 will be in Kazakhstan.
I taught myself how to play guitar, without any professional instruction. It's still one of my biggest personal accomplishments. I started on New Years Day in 2004 (my first experience with my first guitar was re-stringing all six strings), and haven't looked back since. I own a black Ovation Celebrity acoustic-electric, and it's one of my favourite possessions. I'm a geek. I've maintained this website since 2001. If my computer were a human being, it could probably kick your ass (efficiently, too). I own an iPod. And a huge mother of a digital SLR camera. I regularly play my Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 (my friends join me in the N64 playing, just so you know they're all geeks, too). Yep.
I'm not too bad of a bartender. Friends and relatives have told me that I make a wicked Long Beach Martini, and that my Caesars are equally good. Something to use whenever I find myself bored for a few days in Europe, I suppose.
